What Is Microsoft Office Setup?

Microsoft Office or office.com/setup is the collection of software used by almost every kind of individuals including companies, students & professionals. The first version of Microsoft office was introduced with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Microsoft Word was developed to create documents. Microsoft Excel was developed to create a spreadsheet. Microsoft PowerPoint was developed to create presentations.

There are other applications of Microsoft Office setup that every user doesn’t use very often that is why Microsoft created the groups of applications in a collection called suites. There is a suite of applications developed for students only, other suites are for home and small business users, and a separate suite for large companies. Each suite’s price is based on what’s inside it.

How to Setup Office from office.com/setup

  1. Open Microsoft Office’s official website office.com/setup or www.office.com/setup in your browser search bar.
  2. To sign into your Microsoft Office account enter your email and password.
  3. New user? create an account.
  4. Put in your 25 character Product key which is shown in the office activation card.
  5. Now Download Setup, Run File.
  6. Click on Install. The office setup is ready.

Where to enter your Office product key

If your purchase of Office or Microsoft 365 came with a product key, you enter your product key on one of the websites listed below for your product. After you enter your key, you can download and install Office, or you can renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.

To redeem a new purchase

Step 1: Go to office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup.

Step 2: Sign in with your Microsoft account, or create one if you don’t have one. Be sure to remember this account so that you can install or reinstall Office later, without a product key.

Important: If you’re renewing your Microsoft 365 subscription, enter the Microsoft account that’s associated with your subscription. I can’t remember my Microsoft account.

Step 3: Enter your product key, without hyphens, if prompted. If you don’t see the option to enter your product key, it was entered for you automatically.

Step 4: Follow the prompts to finish the redemption process.

To install or reinstall Office

f you see the error This product key has already been used when you enter your product key on office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup, this means your product key has already been redeemed and is no longer needed.

Instead, use your Microsoft account to sign in to account.microsoft.com and install your Office product.

How do I activate Microsoft Office
  1. Step 1: Open the Office program. Programs such as Word and Excel are pre-installed on a laptop with a year of free Office.
  2. Step 2: choose an account. An activation screen will appear.
  3. Step 3: Log in to Microsoft 365.
  4. Step 4: accept the conditions. 
  5. Step 5: get started.
How do I download Microsoft Office?
  1. To download the offline installer, go to www.office.com. If you’re not already signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your copy of Office do that now. If you’re signed in with a different account, sign out of that and then sign in again with the correct Microsoft account.

    Note: If you’re trying to install Microsoft 365 that you got through your work or school and you already signed in with your work or school account, don’t follow these instructions. Select the Office for business tab from above instead.

  2. Select Install Office. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you’ll also need to select Install Office > on the Installs page.

  3. In the Download and install window, select Other options.

  4. Check the box Download an offline installer and select the language you want to install Office in. Select Download.

  5. When you’re prompted, from the bottom of your browser window, select Save (in Edge), Open (in Internet Explorer), Open when done (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox). The file will begin downloading on your PC.

  6. Once the download is complete, open File Explorer and locate a new virtual drive, for example (D:). This drive contains the Office installation files. If you don’t see the new drive, locate the image file you downloaded and double-click it. The new drive should appear in your directory.

Where can I find office setup file?
  1. Navigate to your computer’s download (.exe) file (C:\Users\Your Username\Downloads by default).
  2. Open the folder for the version of Windows Office Professional Plus 2013 that you wish to install (32-bit or 64-bit).
  3. In the folder that opens, double-click on the file setup.exe.
How do I activate my free Microsoft 365 subscription for Office?
You’ve purchased a laptop that includes Microsoft Office (365) for free for a year. You have to activate this first. Below you can find the link to activate your free Office package on your new laptop.

How To Download and install or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 on a PC or Mac at office.com/setup

For PC Sign in to download Office

  • Go to www.office.com and if you’re not already signed in, select Sign in.

  • Sign in with the account you associated with this version of Office. This account can be a Microsoft account, or work or school account. I forgot the account I use with Office

  • After signing in, follow the steps that match the type of account you signed in with.

  • This completes the download of Office to your device. To complete the installation, follow the prompts in the “Install Office” section below.

  • Depending on your browser, select Run (in Edge or Internet Explorer), Setup (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox).

    If you see the User Account Control prompt that says, Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? select Yes.

  • Your install is finished when you see the phrase, “You’re all set! Office is installed now” and an animation plays to show you where to find Office applications on your computer. Select Close.

Activate Office

  1. To open an Office app, select the Start button (lower-left corner of your screen) and type the name of an Office app, like Word.

    If you have Windows 8.1 or 8.0, type the name of an Office app on the Start screen. Can’t find your Office apps?

  2. To open the Office app, select its icon in the search results.

  3. When the Office app opens, accept the license agreement. Office is activated and ready to use.

For MAC Sign in and install Office

  • Go to www.office.com and if you’re not already signed in, select Sign in.

  • Sign in with the account you associated with this version of Office. This account can be a Microsoft account, or work or school account. I forgot the account I use with Office

  • After signing in, follow the steps that match the type of account you signed in with.

  • Follow the instructions below to complete installing your Office apps.

Install Office
  • Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click Microsoft Office installer.pkg file (the name might vary slightly).

    Tip: If you see an error that says the Microsoft Office installer.pkg can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, wait 10 seconds and move the downloaded file to your desktop. Hold Control + click the file to launch the installer.

  • On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.

  • Review the software license agreement, and then click Continue.

  • Select Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.

  • Choose how you want to install Office and click Continue.

  • Review the disk space requirements or change your install location, and then click Install.

    Note: If you want to only install specific Office apps and not the entire suite, click the Customize button and uncheck the programs you don’t want.

  • Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then click Install Software. (This is the password that you use to log in to your Mac.)

  • The software begins to install. Click Close when the installation is finished. If Office installation fails, see What to try if you can’t install or activate Office for Mac.

Launch an Office for Mac app and start the activation process

  1. Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock to display all of your apps.

  2. Click the Microsoft Word icon in the Launchpad.

  3. The What’s New window opens automatically when you launch Word. Click Get Started to start activating. If you need help activating Office, see Activate Office for Mac. If Office activation fails, see What to try if you can’t install or activate Office for Mac.

How do I pin the Office app icons to the dock?

  1. Go to Finder > Applications and open the Office app you want.

  2. In the Dock, Control+click or right-click the app icon and choose Options > Keep in Dock.
